Welcome to SLIP
SLIP is an open data platform for location-based information coordinated by Landgate through the WALIS partnership.
Thousands of datasets can be accessed through SLIP via a wide range of maps. Most of the data can be viewed directly by everyone through public maps. Some data is available only by subscription. A small number of datasets are restricted for use between agencies under arrangements set out in the Western Australian Whole of Government Open Data Policy.
We encourage you to explore what's available through SLIP via data.wa.gov.au.
A little more about SLIP
The SLIP program was established in the mid-2000's following recommendations by the Functional Review Taskforce and investigations by the Department of Treasury and Finance.
SLIP was originally implemented in 2007 and links government agency information systems to create a single, online, real-time point of entry to location and property information currently held by various government departments.
Major achievements have already been delivered, connecting government agencies and providing them with the ability to share information electronically within planned budget allocations and acceptable timelines.
Location Information Strategy for Western Australia
In May 2012 the Western Australian State Cabinet approved funding to implement the Location Information Strategy (LIS) for Western Australia.
The Strategy sets out to improve the use of location information, increase its awareness and sharing across Western Australian Government and private and research organisations. SLIP is an important platform to enable increased sharing of public sector data in WA. It has recently been enhanced to make the data more directly accessible to more people through easy to use online maps such as locate.wa.gov.au, as well as machine readable services for business developing their own business systems.
